Henry Ford Health System Taps PatientPing's Groundbreaking Clinical Notification Technology to Advance Patient Care Coordination in Michigan
Boston-based, Google Ventures-Backed Health Tech Company Partners with Innovative Health System in Michigan to Enhance Patient Care Coordination between Health Care Providers
Boston, Mass. and Detroit, Mich. (June 21, 2016) – PatientPing, a groundbreaking health technology company that allows health care providers to get notified in real-time when their patients receive care elsewhere, announced today that Detroit’s Henry Ford Health System has installed the technology software to be used as part of their Population Health initiative and Accountable Care Organization.
The Henry Ford Physicians Accountable Care Organization, which launched last January, provides enhanced care options for Medicare patients. The PatientPing technology will enable Henry Ford to receive real-time notifications when their patients are admitted or discharged to a skilled nursing facility in Michigan.
“This software will be a helpful tool to track our patients should they unexpectedly go to a skilled nursing facility,” says Charles Kelly, D.O., executive of the Henry Ford Physicians ACO and CEO of the Henry Ford Physicians Network. “Combined with our electronic medical records, this will enhance communications and coordination of care between providers.”
PatientPing aims to enhance medical information transparency between once disconnected health care providers by implementing its lightweight technology to cut across silos and improve patient care. Upon joining PatientPing, providers receive “pings,” or real-time notifications, whenever their patients receive care at a wide range of acute and post-acute facilities in Michigan and beyond. At the facility where patients are getting care, providers receive care instructions that include contact information for others on the patient’s care team as well as patient visit histories. By sharing this information in real time, providers can seamlessly coordinate their patient’s care.
PatientPing Founder & CEO Jay Desai adds, “When information is not passing between our health care providers, it can be frustrating for providers and patients alike. Patients are beginning to demand that their providers work together across health care settings. We pride ourselves on how simple we make it for providers to do just that. As a leader in Michigan and the rest of the country, we’re proud to support Henry Ford Health System as we continue our national expansion and help their providers improve the quality of care for its patients across Michigan.”
“The cooperation between PatientPing and HFHS resulting from the Statewide ADT Service showcases the progress the state of Michigan has made to improve care coordination efforts,” said Tim Pletcher, executive director, Michigan Health Network Shared Services (MiHIN). “Family doctors, specialists, pharmacists, hospitals, counselors – they all provide treatment, but often don’t know each other’s actions. PatientPing will allow patients in our state to reap the benefits of real-time information sharing to improve care and reduce health care spending.”
PatientPing's nationwide community includes more than 15,000 providers and has a presence in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New Hampshire. PatientPing recently received $9.6M in funding from Google Ventures, F-Prime Capital (the VC funds of FMR LLC, the parent company of Fidelity), with participation from First Round Capital and SV Angel. PatientPing is rapidly accelerating its nationwide expansion so that any two or more providers that share patients anywhere in the country can simply coordinate with one another.
